Read the light before choosing plants
Observe the balcony at morning, midday, and late afternoon. Sun-loving plants need several hours of direct light, while a bright but shaded balcony calls for varieties selected for indirect light.
Build around water and wind
Choose containers with drainage and use saucers that will not leave water on the balcony below. Heavier pots are more stable, but keep weight distributed and check the building's load and railing rules before adding large planters.
Measure first, read the care and installation guidance, and compare the complete cost of ownership. A product that fits the room and the household routine is usually a better choice than one selected from a photograph alone.
