An umbrella that shades the tabletop may still leave diners in direct sun as it moves. For a small patio, the pole and base can also take up more usable floor area than expected.
Start with the seating footprint
Measure the table and chairs at their occupied positions, then compare canopy diameter and height. Offset umbrellas need room for the base and arm to swing without striking a wall or roof edge.
Treat the base as part of the product
The correct base weight depends on umbrella size, mounting method, and wind exposure. Follow the maker's requirements and close the canopy in gusty weather rather than relying on a heavier base to make unsafe conditions acceptable.
Measure first, read the care and installation guidance, and compare the complete cost of ownership. A product that fits the room and the household routine is usually a better choice than one selected from a photograph alone.
